{"id":705657,"date":"2024-02-22T10:41:07","date_gmt":"2024-02-22T16:41:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cowsmo.com\/?p=705657"},"modified":"2024-02-22T10:41:07","modified_gmt":"2024-02-22T16:41:07","slug":"who-wants-robotic-milkers-and-why","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cowsmo.kinsta.cloud\/?p=705657","title":{"rendered":"Who Wants Robotic Milkers And Why"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A researcher with Wisconsin\u2019s Dairy Innovation Hub is digging into why some dairy producers use robotic milkers while others avoid them.<\/p>\n<p>Jalyssa Beaudry is a University of Wisconsin-River Falls graduate now working on her master\u2019s degree at UW Madison.\u00a0 She says that 75% of dairy farmers surveyed are not considering automated milking systems for their farms. \u201cThe top two reasons we found is that it\u2019s too expensive to purchase and install, and then the second reason was it\u2019s too costly to maintain, so money is an issue when talking about adopting AMS.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beaudry says they\u2019ve found farms with milking robots have more cows than the average farm, higher rolling herd averages, and more acres to manage.\u00a0 She says when it comes to automated milking systems, there is such thing as too few and too many cows. \u201cFor farms that have over 1,000 cows, it\u2019s not likely for them to adopt, and for farms of less than 60, it\u2019s also not likely for them to adopt robots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beaudry says it\u2019s also the younger farmers and farmers over 60 that are more likely to use automated milking systems. \u201cWe think that the younger generation, they grew up with technology, they know what it is.
